We haven’t finalized our idea yet, but I think it’s better to write ideas down rather then forget it. It’s hard enough coming up with original ideas, because Hollywood has used up all the good plot lines and ways they tell the story both through trail and error.
Basically our first idea was just adapting a horror game into a film. This has been done many times but we could either just keep to the original material or change a few things. For example Silent Hill plays with your mind and constantly keeps you on your feet, especially while playing the game itself. Dead Space focuses more on survival horror as well as Resident Evil.
Our second idea came to us while watching Zombieland. It was interesting because it broke all conventions of a normal horror film: the girls weren’t helpless, the main character is a bit of a wimp and the other is a bad-ass zombie killer machine. So our idea would be to create a zombie apocalypse movie. A couple of things need to be taken care of: Whether or not the zombies should be fast or slow, whether to have 4 characters (a bit like Left 4 Dead), to include a female member, what weapons, what setting and even zombie types.
So we have a lot of ideas but we haven’t decided which theme to use: Zombie apocalypse (Dawn of the Dead, Zombieland), Exploitation type (Grindhouse’s Planet Terror and Death Proof), paranoia parasitic (The Thing), science fiction horror (Alien or Aliens) or even a comedy horror (Slither).
In the long run, we'll stick to a zombie theme for now but ideas may change or become something new.
