Horror Trailer Plot and Comments

At the moment, the main plot of our film is 4 characters who are us, creating a horror film deep inside some dark woods, using hand-held cameras (a nod to Cloverfield and the Blair Witch Project). However one of us, Sam, keeps having nightmares and sees things. He draws them down on paper to get them out of his mind. When he tells us, we don't believe him at first, until the drawings become real and try to kill us. The ending is ambiguous at the moment.

Firstly, I'm not practically in the favour of this story. Yes, it is fun and easy to do with the current time and resources but are we really that simple? When I go and watch a horror film I expect these films not to be high budgeted but rather to scare us or creep us out. I like films that makes you jump out of your seat, disgust you, haunt your dreams, creep you out and keep you on the edge of your sanity (and on your nerves if you can manage it).

To me, the greatest and best horror film I've seen so far, is The Thing by John Carpenter. I'm not saying we should rip everything down and start over again. I mean, what do we the producers, writers, actors and directors want out of our audiences? I do want to scare them because that's what horror movies do these days. Today's horror films are a bit poor and rather make you laugh at all the gore. There is only a couple of good black comedy horror films such as Zombieland, which broke the conventions of horror films forever, but didn't make an impression.

Its true that horror films are only in it for the money and not to terrorize. Films are an art form and entertainment for the audience, that's why. But for me and my group, were not doing so well. We're highly disorganized, haven't got much direction with our film and the most bad thing is that we constantly argue and suggest new ideas and throw away old ones. It all comes down to this, can we:

Create a film that is in the bounds/restrictions of our resources and imagination
Make a good film that both us and the audience to enjoy
Use our time effectively
Create a film that is simple to do and not mind bogglingly impossible to do, such as a zombie apocalypse theme.
Make a film that we all like and agree on

So far, almost all of these points are not answered, I believe we can't really make a horror film trailer without squabbling amongst ourselves. I really don't think I trailer about monsters that come alive from paper isn't good enough. For something simple, how about if are aim is not to scare or disturb the audience but make it funny, since today's horror films are about as much of a laugh as Plan 9 From Outer Space ever was.

I suggest a comedy horror film and not a gruesome gore slasher or any other horror film. That being said, I haven't actually come up with an idea which is a worry. By the end of November, we should have finalized our idea. I can't agree with my colleagues unless they agree with me and that will take some time.
